You know, sometimes...well anytime really, I wish I could have grown up in the 60's...I know that really sounds crazy..but it seems like that was my era........I feel I would have fit in so much better in that time period...like everything would have been right for me and I could get a grip on everything better. When ever I watch Forest Gump (I think its got to be just about the best movie ever filmed) I always kinda wanted to be there, for woodstock and John Lennon and San Fransico and the whole peace vibe....yes a little hippie-ish I guess but that was just a statement thats all. Yes I dont doubt there is some serious talent of this age but nothing compared to the people of the mid 1900's you know? the world is never going to see anthoer beatles, Elvis ,Pink Flyod or (the) Who. But it really is unfair to say I missed out, I mean its not like I could actually choose when to be born!
Its just sometimes I feel just like im liveing on a mear limb of a branch of a tree at time ya dig that? its like all this really huge shit whent down around then, not only musical but feelings and NAM and the moon walking, it seems that so many (in some things almost everything) is just a bi-product of a huge root from then, like Elvis witch back then music was in its purest form, he came along and shook things up (no im not refering to any of Mr.Presleys material -_-) and then that inspired others to do the same...you know the story (Jimmy Page "I love elivs! I can really dig him!" Steven Taylor "man Jimmy Page kicks ass!" Kirk Hammet "Steven Taylor is just fuckin awsome!" Some stupid band today "man Kirk be da shiznet!" you get the idea! Once again its like elvis (now I KNOW that its more like bach and mozart but im not goin that deep for now!) started it all and he was the start of the chain..then others saw his music that broke away from the purest form..and gave it his own style and put there own take on that(wtich of course was quite a bloody feat back then!!!) witch still had so much ground to cover, and so much was being done..as the chian goes down it gets weaker and loses origanality (with of course HUGE exceptions but they are rare nowa days) so its like today the chain has gotten SO long that there is not a whole lot of stuff to do that hasn't been done.
But I do know that music isn't about being origanal, its really about haveing fun and expressing yourself. So my advice to you is that you SHOULD express your self as much as you like! just be sure your doing SELF-expression, not the-other-guys-twisted-expression! sure you can have as many influances as you want (take your pick theres more of them then stars in the sky in this age!) just use that knowage as a tool to work on your own style, maybe you wont re-define the music sence but as long as you havefun doing it thats all taht really matters.
